22 paddlers showed up raring to go for the in the second Kupe Tuesday night race of 2012. 20 degree sunshine was accompanied by a reasonable northerly that picked up throughout the 6.8km course around the fountain. Orienteering added a new dimension with paddlers dodging fishing lines, swimmers and boats.
Again, the field set off in three waves. Last week proved that it is possible for the A grade to catch C and this week showed similar results with a good mix-up in the order of finishers. Rough conditions made for some exciting times, especially for those trialling new boats. No swims though!
The long range forecast for next Tuesday is for southerly winds. If this actually comes through racing may be at Oriental Bay so make sure you check this website at noon next Tuesday for the race location. Dean is taking a break as coordinator so look out for AJ and Sandy to register.
A couple of reminders to all - please make sure you wear your PFD at races. The Harbourmaster has been known to pop up and fine people from time to time and we want to keep races as safe as possible. Also, just a reminder to non club members to please remember to pay your $5 per race to contribute to our end of season BBQ and wrap up.
